Classical Ballet Training

Students undertaking Ballet at the POISE level follow the Cecchetti method, an internationally recognised training system. More dedicated ballet students working toward our Elite stream will attend two ballet classes per week — a general Ballet class and a Grade 1 Cecchetti Exam class. This structure supports correct preparation for Ballet examinations, typically held in July/August.

Students who have completed their Pre-Primary or Primary Ballet assessment in the ASPIRE level, continue their Grade 1 Ballet exam during POISE, and demonstrate the required standard and maturity may be invited to join the Elite Competition Team in the 8 & under age group.

Elite Competition Pathway

Students invited into the Elite Competition Team participate in an additional 60-minute class per week. Throughout the year, students learn three routines which are performed at two major competitions. Two routines are also showcased at the end-of-year performance in December.

Elite Competition Team and Ballet Exam students are acknowledged for their commitment to additional training and achievements at our annual Presentation Evening.

Learning Environment

Classes at the POISE level are more structured and disciplined while continuing to foster enjoyment, confidence and positive encouragement. Students are supported to develop independence, focus and resilience as they progress in their training.

Assessments & Progression

All POISE students are celebrated at the Presentation Evening in December as they graduate into the GRACE level and receive their certificate and medal. Ballet Exam and Elite Competition students receive additional recognition for their dedication and accomplishments throughout the year.

Additional Opportunities

As the year progresses, POISE students may also be offered opportunities to participate in an in-house Student Choreography Competition and attend our Summer Intensive in January with industry-renowned teachers.

Please note: Entry-level beginner students aged 7 may be required to commence in the ASPIRE level before entering POISE, depending on experience and technical readiness, to ensure a strong foundation in basic technique.
